Studying in Yogyakarta is the dream of most young people, especially those coming from outside Java. One of them is a young high school graduate from Leda village, Manggarai, NTT named Efrentus Posenti Orung. With a burning spirit, Eno, as he is called, received the blessing of his parents who work as farmers, to leave home to pursue his dreams to Yogyakarta after failing to become a priest even though he had been doing it for two years. Feeling that it was not his calling to be a priest, Eno followed his heart by studying electrical engineering at Respati University Yogyakarta.
In 2022, Eno began to move to Yogyakarta. It was not easy to live alone with limited facilities and finances. At the beginning of semester 2, around April 2023, Eno started looking for part-time work at a restaurant in Nologaten-Sleman. Even though he had no experience, his seriousness in working and the training provided by the restaurant made him able to cook, to understand the work of a cashier, and to serve customers well as a waiter. He did this job while studying by managing his time as well as possible.
Not satisfied with working at the restaurant, Eno initiated to open an electronic equipment repair service in September 2024. Having succeeded in repairing his broken fan, several friends asked for his services to repair their electronic goods. Fortunately, friends and neighbors entrusted their electronic goods to Eno for reparation. From his hard work, Eno was able to buy a motorcycle to support his mobility. More than that, Eno can survive in Jogja even though he is studying.
Currently, Eno is trying to make a tool as a requirement for graduating from his studies. There are many ideas in his mind, one of which is how to make a tool that can help to detect nicotine content from one human breath. This idea came up from the condition of his village in which many people smoked for the reason of warming their bodies because they lived in the cold hilly area. As a result, many kids/children become passive smokers because they associate with adults/parents, especially when there are celebrations in the village. Eno observed that many children lost their appetite, often got ill with diarrhea, coughs, and fevers, and absent frequently from school. It became his concern to make a nicotine detector. With this tool, he hopes to be able to find out the standard of nicotine tolerance for children or humans in general.
Finally, wish him luck, Stube HEMAT‘s friends. ***
